COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT ELECTRIC MUSCLE STIMULATION TRAINING

Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can do EMS training?

In general, EMS training is suitable for almost everyone whether male or female, young or old. All clients should consult with a physician before starting any new workout regimen and EMS training is no exception – especially clients with any of the following:

  • Heart disease

  • Pacemaker

  • Extreme blood pressure

  • Thrombosis

  • Circulatory disorders

  • Arteriosclerosis

  • Pregnancy

  • Epilepsy

  • Neurological diseases

  • Bleeding tendencies

  • Febrile, bacterial or viral disease

  • Hernia

What are the benefits of EMS training?

EMS training can be found in many facilities including gyms and wellness/beauty centres. Additionally, this technology is often used in competitive sport, rehabilitation and medicine. Elite athletes use EMS along with their training in order to improve their strength and speed.

Physical therapists make use of EMS for joint-sparing muscle formation and for targeted back exercises.

Personal trainers, gyms and beauty centres concentrate on the fitness and beauty aspects of this technology. This includes body shaping through muscle formation and catabolism of fat, stimulation of metabolism and the tightening of connective tissue. This results in the desired aesthetics of decreased cellulite and a more toned/defined body appearance.

When will I notice results?
You will feel revitalized after the first session! Initial success, such as better posture will become evident after the first few training sessions. Weight loss, increased muscle strength and improvement of skin appearance will be noticeable within only a short period of time following consistent use of EMS training.
Can EMS training be used long-term?

Yes it is encouraged! Just like with conventional strength training, you should continue to use EMS regularly. If you stop working out over an extended period of time, the muscles will be reduced to their original status.

Why is EMS training more effective than conventional weight training?
The EMS full body workout activates over 90% of the muscle fibres simultaneously during each contraction. This grants an advantage over conventional strength training as deeper muscles are also being used and targeted.

Because EMS activates the muscles fibres in a non-regular order, an intense level of training is enabled right from the start. This creates more muscle fibres at an accelerated rate and results in gaining more muscle. Therefore, the use of EMS training allows for a much more rapid effect with visible results, in less time!

Can I lose weight with EMS?
Yes. In the first phase of the training, you will lose centimetres and in the second phase, fat deposits are attacked. Because of the increased muscle activity, energy consumption heightens which causes more calories to be burned resulting in weight loss!
Is the stimulation current dangerous?
It should be understood that all electrical systems may come with risks. However, training or therapy using low-frequency current stimulation is not dangerous. During this process, small intrinsic electrical pulses initiate every movement and exclusively activate the striated skeletal muscles. Therefore, the impulse does not seem foreign to the body nor reach the organs or the heart.
How long has EMS technology existed?
In 1902, a French researcher invented the first stimulation machine which was successfully used to treat muscle atrophy and paralysis. More research followed and 70 years later, two Russian scientists Kotz and Chwilon, proved the outstanding results of muscular stimulation on humans.

Their experiments showed a 30-40% increase of muscular strength through this technology! These studies also proved that minimal physiological and mental efforts need to be utilized to see results in only a short period of time. Back then, EMS training was mainly used in therapy for the treatment/rehabilitation of muscle atrophy and muscle imbalance.

Additionally, it was used in professional sports to improve overall performance and muscle composition in athletes.Today, training with electrical muscle stimulation has become a proven training method which is gaining popularity all over the world.
